Job summary

Summary

Join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU)! This full‑time position is located in San Diego, CA and supports contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships. The selected candidate will perform a variety of skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems and associated equipment, including weapons elevators and vertical store conveyors. Travel within and outside of the continental United States may be required.

What You Will Do
  • Perform skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems and associated equipment.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems.
  • Work closely with higher‑level employees on specialized assignments.
  • Train or assist other employees and Navy personnel on shipboard systems and day‑to‑day operation.
  • Carry out daily physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment.
  • Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
  • Perform duties outside of specialty when required to complete an installation or work assignment.
What You Must Have
  • High school education or trade school equivalency with 6 years of related experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems.
  • Proficiency reading electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience installing equipment on site following safety, qualification, control and testing procedures.
  • Ability to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
Preferred: Bonus Points For
  • Experience with marine hydraulic electrical system operation, repair and maintenance.
  • Prior shipboard experience.
  • Current or active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Related technical training, degrees or certifications.
  • Experience maintaining shipboard aircraft elevator, ordnance handling equipment or vertical package conveyors.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes, no less than 30 lbs. Ability to climb ladders, work in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and confined spaces. Willingness to work in high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, aloft or over ship sides. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel within and outside the continental United States may be required.
