Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking a Ship Superintendent in Gloucester City, New Jersey to oversee vessel loading and unloading operations at a busy marine terminal. You will supervise stevedoring teams, coordinate resources, and ensure cargo operations meet safety and productivity standards.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to work nights and weekends. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internal systems is expected, along with TWIC credential

Qualifications

• Experience in vessel operations, stevedoring, marine terminals, or cargo handling.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
• TWIC card possession or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise, and assign work to stevedoring personnel.
• Monitor vessel loading and unloading operations to ensure safety and productivity.
• Coordinate cargo handling sequences and day-to-day operational activities.
• Monitor employee attendance and address personnel or operational issues as they arise.
• Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety and participate in safety programs.
• Coordinate with internal departments, customers, vessel agents, and vendors.
• Identify potential operational issues and take proactive steps to prevent delays.
• Maintain accurate correspondence and operational documentation.
• Support daily operations using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internal systems.
• Provide leadership and direction to teams in a fast-paced terminal environment.
• Work night and weekend shifts as required.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a TWIC card.
