Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• F-02 required.
• Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters (F-80) required.
• Security License required.
• 3-5 years of management experience required.
• 1-3 years of experience in the social services field required.
• Proven ability to think critically, solve problems, troubleshoot and manage crisis situations.
• Strong management, interpersonal, writing and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• CPR/First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including some holidays, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

Program Overview:

Inaugurated in 1991 and funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services, Helen’s House is a transitional housing program that provides temporary accommodations with on-site social services for 16 single parents and their children up to nine years old. During their stay, each family is housed in a furnished efficiency apartment and has access to onsite social services that address the psychological and concrete causes and effects of homelessness and unemployment.

Position Summary:

The Shift Supervisor partners with the Senior Leadership Team to support the safe and efficient operations of a 24-hour homeless family shelter. This position is designed to provide operational coverage across both the evening and overnight shifts. The employee will be scheduled to work portions of each shift to support continuity between teams and ensure smooth shift transitionsandis responsible for supervising the operations team and contracted security staff, while providing onsite operational oversight during evening and overnight hours. The role oversees crisis management, safety, staff coordination, and daily operations to ensure quality service delivery in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for task management and delegation.

• Provide management oversight in a 24-hour homeless facility for families during the evening, overnight, and on weekends.
• Ensure the accurate completion of operations team task.

• Assist with maintaining and creating schedules for operations staff, manage callouts and coverage as needed.
• Respond to emergencies; document thoroughly and submit required incident reports internally and externally to funders.
• Oversee safety within the facility.
• Conduct fire drills as scheduled.
• Manage and de-escalate crisis as needed.
• This position is a "face to face" relief post.
• Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Experience in database navigation (CARES/AWARDS) strongly preferred.

Essential Physical Job Functions:

• Able to sit & stand for long periods of time, as needed.
• Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs throughout the day, as needed.
• Ability to work onsite in the Lower East Side.
