Job summary

City of Austin is seeking an Animal Health Technician to deliver high-quality veterinary care at our shelter. You will work with veterinarians to examine animals, administer treatments, run diagnostics including radiographs, and maintain medical records.

The role includes assisting in surgeries, monitoring anesthesia, and supporting euthanasia decisions when required. Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least one year of related experience, plus a Texas Class C license.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent; plus one year of work experience, including six months in a related field.
• Licensure: Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
• Preferred: vaccinations, anesthesia, radiography and animal handling skills as listed in qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care and treatment to shelter animals under supervision of veterinarians.
• Perform examinations, administer treatments, and conduct diagnostics (including radiographs).
• Assist in surgery: pre-anesthesia, induction, monitoring and post-operative care.
• Maintain accurate medical records and assist with euthanasia when advised by veterinarians.
