Job summary

City of Dallas seeks a Veterinary Assistant for Dallas Animal Services to support veterinarians in the medical and technical care of animals at city shelters. You will assist with routine and emergency procedures, microchipping, intake, lab tests, sample preparation, and medication administration, while maintaining records and inventory.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
1 year of veterinary assistant/technician experience in clinic or shelter.
CVA certification or eligibility; euthanasia certification during probation.
No felony drug offenses within the last 10 years.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency procedures.
Perform microchipping and animal intake tasks.
Collect and prepare biological samples for lab tests.
Monitor animals' health and vital signs during procedures.
Administer prescribed medications and manage nursing care.
Prepare, sterilize, and monitor surgical instrument packs.
Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
Keep accurate records and update software/systems.
Assist with adoption assessments and animal disposition.
