Job summary

The Wisconsin Humane Society is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant for its Kenosha Campus to provide hands-on animal care and support shelter veterinarians. The role reports to the Assistant Shelter Operations Manager - Veterinary Support and offers a meaningful opportunity to impact animals and people.

Qualifications

• Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
• Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Euthanasia by injection certified or able to complete the course during the next offering
• Experience in veterinary field a plus

Responsibilities

• Providing surgery prep and post-operative care and assisting with movements and recovery.
• Assisting with treatments, diagnostics, and medications under the direction of shelter veterinarians.
• Assisting and performing euthanasia services for shelter and owned animals as needed.
• Maintaining detailed and accurate medical records in the animal management software.
• Perform basic lab work.
• Facilitating foster appointments and assisting veterinarians with appointments and procedures.
• Vaccinating animals in accordance with organizational protocols.
• Maintaining and cleaning surgical equipment.
• Responding to internal and external client inquiries as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
