Job summary

Seattle Humane in Seattle, WA is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide daily animal care and assist veterinarians and licensed technicians with pre-, peri-, and post-operative care in a busy shelter clinic. You will help with hospitalized patients, administer medications, perform basic procedures, and support community clinic activities, with a focus on high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter practices.

This full-time, non-exempt role requires strong teamwork, safety awareness, and compassion

Qualifications

• Familiar with characteristics of animal behavior and low-stress handling.
• Able to read, write, listen and communicate effectively.
• Able to handle high daily animal volumes safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Care for hospitalized animals and assist veterinarians and licensed technicians with pre-, peri-, and post-operative care.
• Fill prescriptions, administer medications and vaccines, and maintain IV catheters.
• Monitor vital signs during anesthesia, assist with surgeries, and support clinical operations.
• Assist with public appointments, history gathering, and dispensing medications to owners.
• Support reception and collaborate with volunteers and other departments.
