Job summary

VOALA is seeking a Lead Monitor I to organize, supervise, and mentor the Monitors ensuring safety for clients, staff and visitors. The role includes leading safety training and on-site oversight with driving duties preferred.

The position involves scheduling, monitoring, reporting, and directly supporting shelter operations to uphold high security and service standards for the program.

Qualifications

• One year in the general security field, and/or social services / human services, and/or customer service experience.
• Current California driver’s license and clean driving record, knowledge of CA driving laws.
• Experience serving the homeless is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign shifts and plan staff coverage to ensure 24/7 shelter monitoring.
• Train Monitors in safety, security, and program operations.
• Oversee safety practices and provide ongoing leadership.
• Monitor shelter entrance and screen bags/persons to guard against theft.
• Conduct patrols and report safety or facility issues.
• Complete written reports and incident logs daily.

Education

One year of proven college coursework or completion of Careers for a Cause (C4C) or other homeless training course with a certificate

OR Complete Careers for a Cause (C4C) within 60 days of hire

Within 30 days of hire, must successfully complete VOALA safety training
