Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California is seeking a Security Guard to protect a congregate shelter serving homeless individuals. You will patrol, monitor cameras, control access, and respond to crises with de-escalation techniques, while upholding the ministry's values.

Responsibilities include reporting incidents, assisting staff, and collaborating with shelter personnel to maintain guest safety. CPR/First Aid may be required within 30 days of start.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED.
• Patrol client sites and interact with the public for 6-8 hours.
• 1-3 years’ work experience with homeless population preferred.
• 1-3 years’ experience working in security.
• If in recovery, sobriety minimum of three (3) years.
• Criminal background check required.
• CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Secure premises by patrolling property, monitoring cameras, and access points.
• Patrol parking and surrounding areas.
• Inspect fences, gates, doors, and windows for security.
• Investigate unusual or suspicious conditions within 1 mile of the shelter.
• Record incidents, shelter guest, and visitors signing in/out.
• Monitor safety and well-being of guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors.
• Respond to crises and provide intervention using trauma-informed approaches.
• Inform violators of policies and assist shelter staff for safety.
• Report incidents to appropriate authorities and supervisors.
• Implement de-escalation strategies to resolve conflicts.
