Job summary

Pittsburgh Mercy is seeking a Program Counselor to help run daily shelter operations, connecting guests to housing resources and essential services. The role emphasizes building trust, ensuring safety, and delivering compassionate, trauma-informed support.

You will work to create an inclusive, respectful environment and respond effectively to crises, while coordinating with housing programs and health services to support each guest's transition to stable housing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Human Services or related field, or High School Graduate with 4 years of job-related experience working with persons experiencing homelessness or behavioral health needs.
• Act 33/34/73 clearances required.
• Pre-employment Drug Test required.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily shelter operations to ensure a safe and welcoming environment and uphold program policies.
• Engage guests and build trust to support stability and housing goals.
• Coordinate connections to housing programs, street outreach, medical care, and other essential resources.
• Foster an inclusive space through culturally responsive practices and sensitivity to guests' lived experiences.
• Respond to emergencies and crises with trauma-informed approaches and effective problem-solving.
