Job summary

The Salvation Army Midland Division Family Enrichment Center Shelter in Springfield, Missouri, is seeking a part-time Shelter Monitor to support Harbor House residents and maintain safety during shifts.

The position is 19 hours per week with a starting wage of $15.00 per hour. Responsibilities include monitoring clients, enforcing policies, conducting intake interviews, logging incidents, and coordinating beds and chores while upholding confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1 year social service experience or 2 years without diploma.
• CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to work with diverse cultures and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Monitor clients to maintain safety in building and on grounds.
• Enforce resident policies and procedures.

• Assign beds for lodging and provide bed linens as needed.
• Make Harbor House journal entries and review prior logs.
• Record attendance and maintain client roster lists.
• Conduct nightly bed checks as required.

• Assign/monitor chores and assist with training.
• Wake clients when required and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, events, and maintain professional conduct.

Job description

The Salvation Army Midland Division Family Enrichment Center Shelter located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking fora candidate to join their team as their new Shelter Monitor. This individual will maintaincontrol and assist homeless clients in the Harbor House. T his is a part-time, 19 hours per week position with a starting pay of $15.00 per hour.

• Monitor clients to maintain control and assure safety of clients in building and on grounds.
• Enforce resident policies and procedures.
• Accomplish intake interviews on all clients including police clearance and explain thorough explanation of policies and procedures.
• Assign beds for lodging and give out bed linens as needed.
• Make Harbor House journal log entries of incidents during the shift and read the previous entries at the beginning of the shift.
• Record statistics of attendance at house meetings and maintain client roster list.
• Make resident bed checks every hour during the night.
• Answer phone calls and take/pass messages, as necessary.
• Assign/monitor chores to be completed by residents. Assist with training for chores. Keep office clean.
• Wake clients up as necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe from Harm guidelines.
• Participate in other activities as directed (e.g., team meetings, in-service training, fund-raising/special events, etc.).
• Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes but is not limited to such actions as: resolutions of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications

High school or equivalent diploma with one year of experience working in social service agency or two years work experience without a diploma. Higher education in psychology, social work, criminal justice, or another related field is a plus. Must possess Infant/Child/Adult CPR/First Aid certification or be able to acquire certification within the first ninety (90) day probationary period. Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision. Effective communication skills are essential, as well as an ability to work with diverse cultures. Computer skills are desirable.
