The Salvation Army Midland Division Family Enrichment Center Shelter in Springfield, Missouri is seeking a part-time Shelter Monitor to help maintain safety and support homeless clients at Harbor House.

The position is 19 hours per week, starting at $15.00 per hour; responsibilities include monitoring clients, enforcing policies, completing intake, logging incidents, and participating in staff meetings while treating all clients with dignity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year social service experience.
• Two years work experience without a diploma.
• Higher education in psychology, social work, criminal justice, or related field is a plus.
• Must possess CPR/First Aid certification or acquire within first 90 days.
• Team player, self-starter, and ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work with diverse cultures.
• Computer skills are desirable.

Job description

The Salvation Army Midland Division Family Enrichment Center Shelter located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking fora candidate to join their team as their new Shelter Monitor. This individual will maintaincontrol and assist homeless clients in the Harbor House. T his is a part-time, 19 hours per week position with a starting pay of $15.00 per hour.

• Monitor clients to maintain control and assure safety of clients in building and on grounds.
• Enforce resident policies and procedures.
• Accomplish intake interviews on all clients including police clearance and explain thorough explanation of policies and procedures.
• Assign beds for lodging and give out bed linens as needed.
• Make Harbor House journal log entries of incidents during the shift and read the previous entries at the beginning of the shift.
• Record statistics of attendance at house meetings and maintain client roster list.
• Make resident bed checks every hour during the night.
• Answer phone calls and take/pass messages, as necessary.
• Assign/monitor chores to be completed by residents. Assist with training for chores. Keep office clean.
• Wake clients up as necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe from Harm guidelines.
• Participate in other activities as directed (e.g., team meetings, in-service training, fund-raising/special events, etc.).
• Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes but is not limited to such actions as: resolutions of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications

High school or equivalent diploma with one year of experience working in social service agency or two years work experience without a diploma. Higher education in psychology, social work, criminal justice, or another related field is a plus. Must possess Infant/Child/Adult CPR/First Aid certification or be able to acquire certification within the first ninety (90) day probationary period. Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision. Effective communication skills are essential, as well as an ability to work with diverse cultures. Computer skills are desirable.
