Job summary

Services for the Underserved is seeking a Cook to assist in managing and monitoring the development of a nutritious daily menu and meal preparation for 200 homeless residents. The role focuses on preparing low-fat, low-sodium, vegetarian and soft meals to meet dietary needs and medically prescribed requirements.

You will assist with food and equipment ordering, inventory, and logs, ensuring safe handling and storage of all items in line with NY DOH regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management within a large institutional or commercial setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in management and monitoring of development of nutritious daily menu and meal preparation for residents.
• Prepare low-fat, low-sodium, vegetarian and soft meal options to meet special dietary needs.
• Assist in managing food and equipment ordering and inventory.
• Maintain daily equipment, food and waste logs.
• Ensure safe and sanitary handling and storage of all food items per DOH regulations.
• Supervise kitchen area including cleanliness and equipment maintenance and train trainees.
• Assist in implementing a daily cooking and nutrition training curriculum for shelter residents.
