Job summary

S:US is seeking a Cook for their Men’s Shelter in Brooklyn, NY. The role supports menu development and meal preparation for residents, including those with special diets, and may involve weekend/evening shifts.

Requirements include a NY State Food Handlers Certificate and at least 1 year of kitchen management experience in a large institutional setting. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

• NY State Food Handlers Certificate is required.
• At least 1 year of experience in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management in a large institutional/commercial setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare low-fat, low-sodium, vegetarian and soft meal options meeting dietary needs.
• Assist in ordering and inventory of food and equipment.
• Ensure safe and sanitary handling and storage of all food items per NY regulations.
• Supervise kitchen area, cleanliness, equipment and supplies; train trainees.
• Support in implementing a Daily Cooking and Nutrition curriculum for Shelter Residents.
