Job summary

S:US is seeking a Cook for their adult families shelter located in Manhattan, NY. The role focuses on preparing nutritious meals for residents, including those with special dietary needs, and supervising kitchen operations at East 31 Street, NY 10016.

Requirements include a NY State Food Handlers Certificate and at least 1 year of kitchen experience in large institutional settings. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; extensive benefits and a mission-driven team accompany the role.

Qualifications

• NY State Food Handlers Certificate required.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare low-fat, low-sodium, vegetarian and soft meal options to meet special dietary and medically prescribed needs of residents.
• Assist in managing and performing food and equipment ordering and inventory.
• Safe and sanitary handling and storage of all food items in accordance with New York State and New York City DOH regulations.
• Supervise kitchen area including cleanliness, equipment, utensils and supplies, and train inexperienced trainees.
• Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and trainings as needed.
• Supervise and train residents in basic nutrition, meal prep, food handling and storage, kitchen cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
