Job summary

Shelter House's Kennedy Emergency Shelter is seeking a Cook to operate the on-site commercial kitchen and prepare meals for residents. The role supports daily meal service, inventory control, and adherence to health standards in a fast-paced shelter environment.

You will work Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30am–6:30pm, and help with bag lunches or special meals as residents' needs arise. This position emphasizes care, respect, and teamwork within our shelter community.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen environment.
• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
• Willingness to work mornings, evenings and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals per mealtime; follow federal/state guidelines.
• Maintain refrigeration and self-serve area inventories.
• Monitor pantry stock; manage perishable items and USDA commodities.
• Clean kitchen and equipment regularly to maintain sanitary conditions and health compliance.
• Accept food donations and assist with distribution as needed.
• Supervise and assist kitchen volunteers during shifts.
• Attend Shelter House staff meetings and training as directed by supervisor.
