Job summary

Shelter House, Kennedy Emergency Shelter in Fort Belvoir, VA, is seeking a full-time Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for shelter residents in a compliant kitchen. The role supports inventory and meals for residents in a compassionate, community-focused environment.

You will work Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM, cook meals to federal/state guidelines, monitor supplies, supervise volunteers, and collaborate with the Kitchen Manager to uphold Shelter House core values of

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1+ years of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen environment.
• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
• Willingness to work mornings, evenings and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious and well-balanced meals for each mealtime according to federal and state nutritional guidelines.
• Ensures adequate stocking of essential food items in the refrigerator and self-serve areas.
• Maintains inventory of perishable items and USDA commodities within budget.
