Job summary

The Salvation Army in Wisconsin seeks a Shelter Support Worker to supervise residents, conduct intake interviews, and ensure safety and order within the shelter.

You will coordinate with the case management team, assist with meals and basic services, and maintain cleanliness while following all policies. This role emphasizes compassion, crisis de‑escalation, and respectful service to those in need.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with the homeless population desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conducts intake interviews for new shelter residents.
• Monitors room assignments and distributes basic necessities.
• Provides necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed.
• Assist with client need, refer to case manager as appropriate.
• Provide de-escalation and crisis response.
• Answers telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate.
• Maintain cleanliness of shelter common areas.
• Assist with food service preparations and serving.
• Ensures shift is documented according to procedures.
• Performs room inspections.
• Supervises volunteers, when assigned.
