Job summary

St. Vincent De Paul Mission of Bristol, Inc. is seeking a Food Service Specialist (Shelter Cook) to plan and prepare economical, healthy meals for shelter residents and to maintain the shelter kitchen, appliances and pantries.

This role emphasizes using donated and purchased foods within a Housing First framework. The position requires prior cooking experience in residential or commercial settings and the ability to obtain a ServSafe Manager Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Previous experience cooking in either a residential or commercial setting.
• Ability to obtain ServSafe Manager Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lunch and dinner five days a week for all shelter residents.
• Prepare menus considering health and cultural needs; submit weekly menu to Shelter Director.
• Prepare menus and instructions for days off duty (Sat/Sun).
• Call providers and pickup donated foods as needed; utilize donated foods.
• Maintain clean, orderly shelter kitchen and pantry; ensure readiness for inspections.
• Organize perishable donated shelter food stock and label/rotate items.
• May assist in training new staff or volunteers.
• Follow all policies and procedures of St. Vincent De Paul Mission of Bristol.
• Perform additional duties as requested.
