Job summary

Catholic Charities is seeking a Shelter Caseworker to support homeless individuals in Livingston County, completing intakes and providing services to clients in the warming center. You will connect clients with resources and promote long-term stability, handling diverse needs including mental health and housing barriers.

Essential duties include empathetic engagement, effective communication, crisis de-escalation, and collaboration with DSS.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license is required.
• Background check will be completed prior to employment.
• Minimum 2 years in social services, case management, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide warming center coverage between 4 pm and 8 am as scheduled.
• Monitor facility safety, appearance, and client well-being.
• Coordinate inventory and maintenance needs with the DSS.
• Complete incident reports per agency procedures.
• Sign in clients on entry and connect them with resources.
• Assist clients with community referrals and problem solving.
• Develop individualized approaches to support calm, cohesive environments.
