Job summary

Family Service League is seeking a part-time Client Advocate for a homeless shelter in Brentwood, NY. The Advocate will conduct client intakes, curfew and safety checks, and provide transportation.

The Advocate will perform crisis intervention, ensure compliance with shelter rules, and monitor safety throughout the shelter. This role includes a $1,500 sign-on bonus and requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with knowledge of homeless populations and DSS

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Human Services or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of the homeless population and DSS policies and regulations.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, required.
• Valid and clean NYS Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Complete new client intakes.
• Explain shelter rules and regulations to clients.
• Conduct Curfew Checks.
• Conduct Safety Checks.
• Monitor the safety of the property.
• Address safety issues in unit and remove dangerous items.
• Assist with pantry distribution.
• Assist with distribution of donations.
• Provide transportation.
• Provide crisis intervention.
• Oversee compliance with shelter rules and policies.
• Read and respond to daily emails.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
