Job summary

The Salvation Army in La Crosse, Wisconsin is seeking a Shelter Supervisor to provide supervision, intake, and supportive services to residents. This role emphasizes safety, eligibility screening, and compassionate crisis response.

You will manage shelter operations, supervise volunteers, coordinate with the case manager, handle inquiries, and help maintain cleanliness and food service. The position requires a high school diploma and prior experience with the homeless population is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake interviews for new shelter residents.
• Monitors room assignments and distributes basic necessities.
• Provides supervision of shelter and residents, assuring rules are followed.
• Assist with client needs, refer to case manager as appropriate.
• Provide de-escalation and crisis response.
• Answers telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate.
• Maintain cleanliness of shelter common areas.
• Assist with food service preparations and serving.
• Ensures shift is documented according to procedures.
• Performs room inspections.
• Supervises volunteers, when assigned.
