Job summary

Comfort Systems USA Southeast invites applications for a Sheet Metal Apprentice to support our mechanical construction team on commercial and industrial sites. You will assist with installing, fabricating, and aligning HVAC components, using a range of hand and power tools, and learning to read blueprints and shop drawings.

We value a positive, teachable attitude, basic math skills, and reliability. OSHA 10 is preferred; company can provide if needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in HVAC/mechanical trades preferred.
• Willingness to learn to read blueprints and shop drawings
• Knowledge of basic hand tools and ability to read a tape measure
• OSHA 10 certification preferred (company will provide if needed)
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Basic math skills for measurements and calculations including fractions, percentages and decimals

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of HVAC materials including duct, round pipe, flex duct, dampers, air devices, louvers and equipment.
• Fabricate or alter materials using hand and power tools (shears, hammers, punches, snips, drills, brakes, bending rollers).
• Install support hangers and connect ductwork using clips, drives, nuts, bolts, etc.
• Drill and punch holes in metal for screws/bolts/rivets; install duct tape, connect to branch duct.
• Work from ladders, man lifts, and other heights.
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Job description

As aSheet Metal Apprentice,you work with the mechanical construction team to fabricate, assemble, and install mechanical systems on various commercial and industrial construction sites.

Job Duties

• Assists with the installation of a variety of HVAC materials including but not limited to round pipe/spiral duct, flex duct, motorized dampers, air devices, louvers and air moving equipment
• Assist with fabrication or altering of materials using shears, hammers, punches, snips, drills, brakes, and bending rollers along with other handheld and power tools
• Install support hangers, make duct connection using clips, drives, nuts, bolts, TDC tape, sealer, sheet metal screws, etc.
• Assist with drilling and punching holes in metal for screws, bolts, rivets, and install spin-in, peel and stick, or airtight duct tape, connect to branch duct
• Able to work off ladders, man lifts and other equipment from various heights
• Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned

Requirements

• 1 or more years of experience working with the HVAC/mechanical trade preferred
• Willingness to learn to read blueprints and shop drawings
• Knowledge of basic hand tools and ability to read a tape measure
• OSHA 10 certification preferred (company will provide if needed)
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to perform routine measurements and calculations. Ability to work with fractions, percentages, and decimals

• Ability to travel, as needed, for projects

Compensation

• Wage Range Starting at: $18.00+/hr. based on qualifications & experience
