Job summary

Comfort Systems USA (Southeast), Inc. is hiring a Sheet Metal Apprentice to join the mechanical construction team. You will fabricate, assemble, and install HVAC systems on commercial and industrial sites, gaining hands-on experience with ductwork, piping, and related components.

The role requires basic math, blueprint reading, and a willingness to learn. OSHA 10 is preferred and provided if needed; high school diploma or GED is recommended.

Qualifications

• 1+ years HVAC/mechanical trade experience preferred.
• Willingness to learn to read blueprints and shop drawings.
• Knowledge of basic hand tools and ability to read a tape measure.
• OSHA 10 certification preferred (company will provide if needed).
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic math skills including fractions, percentages and decimals.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of HVAC materials including round pipe/spiral duct, flex duct, motorized dampers, air devices, louvers and air moving equipment.
• Assist with fabrication or alteration of materials using shears, hammers, punches, snips, drills, brakes, and bending rollers and other tools.
• Install support hangers, connect ducts, and seal joints using clips, screws, tape, and related hardware.
• Drill and punch holes for screws/bolts and install duct connections to branch ducts.
• Work from ladders, man lifts and other heights as needed.
• Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.

Job description

As aSheet Metal Apprentice,you work with the mechanical construction team to fabricate, assemble, and install mechanical systems on various commercial and industrial construction sites.

Job Duties

• Assists with the installation of a variety of HVAC materials including but not limited to round pipe/spiral duct, flex duct, motorized dampers, air devices, louvers and air moving equipment
• Assist with fabrication or altering of materials using shears, hammers, punches, snips, drills, brakes, and bending rollers along with other handheld and power tools
• Install support hangers, make duct connection using clips, drives, nuts, bolts, TDC tape, sealer, sheet metal screws, etc.
• Assist with drilling and punching holes in metal for screws, bolts, rivets, and install spin-in, peel and stick, or airtight duct tape, connect to branch duct
• Able to work off ladders, man lifts and other equipment from various heights
• Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned

Requirements

• 1 or more years of experience working with the HVAC/mechanical trade preferred
• Willingness to learn to read blueprints and shop drawings
• Knowledge of basic hand tools and ability to read a tape measure
• OSHA 10 certification preferred (company will provide if needed)
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to perform routine measurements and calculations. Ability to work with fractions, percentages, and decimals

• Ability to travel, as needed, for projects

Compensation

• Wage Range Starting at: $18.00+/hr. based on qualifications & experience
