Job summary

Irvine Company Apartment Communities is seeking aspiring Maintenance Technicians in Training to learn hands-on through online modules, shadowing, and on-site practice.

The role covers drywall, plumbing, appliance diagnostics, HVAC intro, and safety-focused maintenance with opportunities to participate in community projects and after-hours calls.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• 0+ years of maintenance experience required.
• Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, appliances.
• Valid California driver’s license; maintain continuous vehicle liability insurance as required by state law.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Perform drywall and minor repairs across the community.
• Carry out plumbing tasks including disposals, drains, toilet repair and installation.
• Diagnose and repair appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, washer, dryer).
• Support HVAC introductory tasks and preventative maintenance inspections.
• Complete safety training and identify potential hazards on site.
• Keep accurate records of work performed using Salesforce.
• Assist with community projects such as painting and stucco repair.
• Respond to after-hours emergency calls after onboarding.

Our Apartments Division is looking for aspiring Maintenance Technicians to train and develop. If you have experience with general maintenance or handyman work, we will train you!

Training Program Summary

You will be provided with a variety of tools and resources to become a Maintenance Technician. You can expect to complete online learning, job shadow other maintenance professionals and get side by side hands on training. This role focuses on successful execution on routine maintenance tasks, basic repairs, and maintaining of property aesthetics and preventative maintenance inspections. The role also includes supporting special projects and following safety procedures.

• Performs maintenance service requests and preventative maintenance work throughout the community.
• Performs turn service for vacant units in accordance with established quality standards.
• Ensures community common areas and grounds are maintained in accordance to Company standards; identifies and resolves any hazards.
• Understanding of progress to key performance indicators and identifying opportunities.
• Provides excellent customer service through responsiveness and positive interactions.
• Performs work using safe work practices. Ensures completion of safety training and actively identifies safety issues and mitigates risks.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed utilizing Salesforce
• Perform community projects which could include painting, drywall repair. stucco repair, etc.
• After hours emergency calls response upon completion of onboarding

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Experience: 0+ years of maintenance experience required. Basic troubleshooting skills. Basic understanding of at least one of the following: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, appliances.
• Training program to be completed if no or minimal previous maintenance experience
• Valid California driver’s license; Maintain continuous vehicle liability insurance as required by state law. (This role requires the regular and frequent operation of a vehicle, as defined in the Company’s MVR policy, and is part of the essential duties of this position.)
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Multilingual ability a plus
• Ability to move in and out of a variety of positions which include the following: sitting, standing, walking, squatting, stair and ladder climbing, kneeling, belly crawling, overhead reaching, lifting, carrying
• Ability to push and pull up to 60 pounds of force
• Ability to lift below waist up to 48 pounds and above waist 34 lbs
• Ladder climbing - Occasional, Unilateral balance - Average of 20 seconds or more per leg
• Must complete and pass pulmonary exam and respirator fit test.
• Travel between communities may be required daily.
• Ability to perform these functions at multiple sites is required.

Compensation

Base Pay Start Rate: $30.10/hr

Actual placement within this range may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
