Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Service Technician with a strong background in diesel systems to join our team. This position is essential to our operations, supporting customer satisfaction, product development, and service quality. The successful candidate will excel in diagnosing complex issues, providing effective solutions, and demonstrating a passion for high-performance diesel trucks. The role includes maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, primarily focused on Duramax and Allison platforms.

Work Schedule

- Full-time, 40 hours per week

- Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Starting pay based on experience. Minimum $25.00 an hour

Candidates must uphold the highest standards of integrity when representing Merchant Automotive.

Key Responsibilities

- Diagnose and repair diesel trucks based on customer concerns and technical assessments

- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and component replacements

- Conduct pre- and post-service test drives to ensure quality and safety

- Utilize diagnostic tools, including GM GDS2, for accurate troubleshooting

- Recommend future maintenance and upgrades to customers

- Communicate effectively with Service Writers to obtain approvals and clarify job scopes

- Maintain detailed service documentation and adhere to safety protocols

- Occasionally interact directly with customers regarding technical matters

- Comply with all applicable federal and state regulations regarding repairs and modifications

- Support team collaboration and uphold company standards in all duties

- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management

Qualifications

Required:

- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Diesel Technician

- Michigan mechanic certification or license

- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities

- Personal set of tools

- Effective communication and time management skills

Preferred:

- Over 3 years of experience with Duramax diesel engines

- Familiarity with Allison Transmissions

- Experience with:

- Shopware SMS

- GM GDS2 Scan Tool

- G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Slack, NetSuite

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift and move objects exceeding 50 lbs

- Comfortable working beneath vehicles and in confined spaces

- Must be present on-site during business hours

- Capable of operating diagnostic and office equipment

- Willing to travel for off-site training and other assignments
