Position Summary

The Service Plumber performs skilled field diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and installation of commercial plumbing systems. This position responds to assigned service calls, identifies plumbing issues, performs repairs and replacements, ensures compliance with safety and plumbing code requirements, and contributes to customer satisfaction through accurate documentation and clear communication.

The role is critical to maintaining service quality, timely response to customer needs, and adherence to company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, maintain, and service commercial plumbing systems, including sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, domestic water, fixture, valve, water heater, pump, and related plumbing systems.
  • Work in field operations on assigned service calls and projects, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company procedures, plumbing codes, and industry standards.
  • Perform plumbing repairs, replacements, and small installations, including pipe, fittings, valves, fixtures, drains, water heaters, pumps, and related plumbing components.
  • Troubleshoot leaks, stoppages, pressure issues, fixture problems, drainage concerns, and other plumbing system failures.
  • Interpret and apply plumbing drawings, service tickets, work orders, equipment information, and manufacturer documentation as needed to complete assigned work.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, material usage, equipment information, photos, customer approvals, and job documentation in compliance with internal reporting requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, Service Manager, dispatch, project managers, and leadership regarding job status, findings, recommended repairs, and follow-up needs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, applicable plumbing codes, customer site requirements, company safety procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency service requests as needed.
  • Maintain company tools, vehicles, equipment, and assigned inventory in safe, clean, organized, and operational condition.
  • Identify additional repair needs, safety concerns, or service opportunities and communicate them to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, including sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, domestic water, fixtures, valves, water heaters, pumps, and related components.
    • Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, safety practices, customer site requirements, and regulatory standards.
    • Skill in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining commercial plumbing systems and components.
    • Skill in using hand tools, power tools, drain cleaning equipment, testing equipment, and other tools commonly used in plumbing service work.
    • Ability to read and interpret service tickets, work orders, plumbing drawings, equipment information, and manufacturer documentation.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound technical decisions in the field.
    • Ability to communicate professionally with customers, Service Manager, dispatch, coworkers, vendors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to accurately document work performed, materials used, labor time, photos, customer approvals, and other required service information.
    • Ability to identify additional repair needs, safety concerns, or service opportunities and communicate recommendations appropriately.
    • Ability to organize work, manage assigned service calls, and maintain productivity in a fast-paced service environment.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of commercial plumbing service, repair, maintenance, or installation experience.
  • Or a combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of plumbing apprenticeship, trade school, or other formal plumbing training program.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Backflow certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials, tools, equipment, and plumbing components weighing up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance and up to twenty-five (25) pounds overhead.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, elevated areas, rooftops, ladders, scaffolding, and active customer or construction environments.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, noise, dust, moisture, odors, and other conditions commonly associated with plumbing service work.
  • Ability to use hands, tools, and equipment to grasp, manipulate, assemble, repair, and install plumbing materials and components.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, drain cleaning equipment, testing equipment, and other tools commonly used in plumbing service work.
  • Ability to maintain balance and coordination while performing job tasks in active work environments.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel to customer locations, jobsites, vendors, and company facilities as required.
  • Ability to see and hear sufficiently to recognize hazards, inspect plumbing systems, communicate effectively, and perform job duties safely.
