Job summary

MillerWorks in Tallahassee, FL is seeking a Sheet Metal Fabricator to join our fabrication shop. The role focuses on fabricating commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, and related sheet metal components according to job orders, drawings, and specs.

You will operate Vicon equipment, CNC press brakes, spiral machines, and other shop tools. Responsibilities include measuring, laying out, cutting, forming, bending, assembling, and inspecting parts to ensure they meet quality standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; relevant work experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

MillerWorks is looking to fill a Sheet Metal Fabricator position in Tallahassee, FL. Position Summary:

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for fabricating commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, and related sheet metal components according to job orders, drawings, and specifications. This position operates fabrication machinery and equipment to produce accurate, quality components while maintaining safe and efficient work practices in the fabrication shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Fabricate commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, and related sheet metal components according to job orders, blueprints, specifications, and fabrication requirements.
• Read and interpret job orders, blueprints, specifications, measurements, and fabrication details and verify required information is accurate and complete before beginning assigned work.
• Set up and operate sheet metal fabrication machinery and equipment, including Vicon equipment, CNC press brakes, spiral machines, and other applicable shop equipment.
• Measure, lay out, cut, form, bend, assemble, and finish sheet metal components using appropriate materials, dies, tooling, machinery, and fabrication methods.
• Inspect completed components for proper measurements, fit, alignment, workmanship, and conformance with job orders, drawings, specifications, and MillerWorks quality standards.
• Identify and troubleshoot fabrication or equipment issues and communicate drawing discrepancies, material needs, equipment problems, or other concerns to appropriate shop leadership.
• Perform routine cleaning and basic operator maintenance of fabrication machinery and equipment and promptly report equipment requiring repair or additional maintenance.
• Assist with spiral ductwork, fittings, insulation, and other shop fabrication activities as needed to support production requirements.
• Follow all company safety policies and fabrication shop procedures, properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Work productively and independently while coordinating with shop leadership and other team members to meet assigned production priorities and schedules.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of commercial HVAC sheet metal fabrication methods, materials, ductwork components, fittings, and terminology.
• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication machinery, equipment, tooling, and safe operating practices.
• Knowledge of basic fabrication shop safety requirements and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, job orders, specifications, measurements, and layout information.
• Skill in setting up and operating fabrication equipment, including Vicon equipment, CNC press brakes, spiral machines, and related shop machinery.
• Skill in accurately measuring, laying out, cutting, forming, bending, and assembling sheet metal components to required specifications.
• Ability to inspect completed work, identify fabrication or equipment issues, and make appropriate adjustments or communicate concerns to shop leadership.
• Ability to follow job orders, production priorities, established fabrication procedures, and quality requirements with limited supervision.
• Ability to work safely, efficiently, and cooperatively with shop leadership and other team members in a production environment.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in commercial HVAC sheet metal fabrication or closely related fabrication work.
• Basic experience reading blueprints, fabrication drawings, job orders, measurements, and specifications.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and equipment commonly used in sheet metal fabrication.
• Basic knowledge of sheet metal fabrication methods, materials, measurements, and shop safety practices.
• Ability to accurately measure and perform basic mathematical calculations necessary for fabrication work.
• Ability to follow instructions, production requirements, and established fabrication procedures with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two (2) or more years of commercial HVAC sheet metal fabrication experience.
• Trade school, apprenticeship, or other sheet metal/HVAC fabrication training.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC press brakes, Vicon equipment, spiral machines, and other sheet metal fabrication machinery.
• Experience fabricating commercial ductwork, fittings, and related sheet metal components from drawings and job orders.
• Experience performing basic troubleshooting and operator maintenance on sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• OSHA 10 or other recognized construction or shop safety training.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to regularly stand and walk for extended periods while performing fabrication work.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, push, pull, and work in various positions throughout the workday.
• Ability to frequently use hands and arms to handle, position, manipulate, and assemble sheet metal materials and components.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance and heavier materials or components with appropriate assistance or mechanical means.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, fabrication machinery, and other equipment required to perform assigned work.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with measuring, cutting, forming, bending, and assembling sheet metal.
• Visual and auditory ability sufficient to read measurements and fabrication information, inspect completed work, operate machinery, and identify potential safety hazards.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods in a fabrication shop environment.
