Service Lead – Phoenix, AZ
Location & Branch Hours: Phoenix, AZ 85034 – Monday-Friday, Branch Hours of Operation 6AM-5PM (40 hr/week, OT as needed).
Pay Range: $27.50 - $37.85/HR depending on experience.
Description
The Service Lead’s daily primary objective is to assist the Branch Manager and/or Service Manager with shop flow and service quality to ensure timely, accurate service and repair to the rental and delivery fleet. The role prioritizes and assigns repairs of all “downed” equipment, performs regular preventative maintenance and major repairs (approximately 75% of the time), ensures all mechanics complete documentation, monitors part orders and expenses, and provides safety, process, technical performance and training feedback to service leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate to establish daily work priorities of shop and yard employees
- Facilitate effective communication with shop via huddles, meetings, and one‑on‑one interactions
- Assist with key decisions regarding all major equipment repairs, ensuring warranty or customer damage issues are promptly addressed and communicated to the Service and/or Branch Manager
- Ensure adequate availability of essential shop supplies for seamless operations
- Serve as a liaison between the shop and office, addressing equipment issues such as breakdowns, customer damage, etc.
- Demonstrate and instruct advanced troubleshooting/diagnoses and repair techniques for equipment
- Provide training on repairing gas and diesel engines, complex hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drive trains, including manual and power‑shift transmissions on equipment and trucks
- Provide instruction in welding techniques including electric arc ‘stick’, gas welding and brazing
- Conduct thorough inspections, servicing, testing, and refueling equipment prior to tagging it “Ready to Rent”
- Ensure upkeep of all decals, safety warnings, and company ID stickers
- Maintain accurate records documenting equipment maintenance and repair, including field service paperwork
- Utilize part books and requisition forms to order parts accurately as needed
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Maintain a clean and orderly shop environment, including returning tools to designated locations, clearing benches, and sweeping or mopping the shop area at the end of each workday
- May assist with general yard duties including customer assistance
- May assist with washing and staging of equipment
- May deliver or pick‑up equipment to or from job sites as needed
- Promptly report safety incidents/violations to Branch and/or Service Manager
- Assist in training new mechanics
- Maintain company vehicles in accordance with established standards
- May perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements
- Consistently adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Possess mechanical knowledge of construction equipment
- Have basic computer and typing skills
- Grasp and apply new information quickly
- Focus on details and complete tasks with accuracy
- Read, write, and speak English (bilingual is a plus)
- Full range of motion, agility, and strength to lift one's body into/out of large vehicles, trailers, equipment
- Capable of normally lifting 25 lbs., frequently lifting 50 lbs., and occasionally lifting 90 lbs. with assistance
- Minimum age of 21 years required to drive company vehicles, hold a valid driver’s license, and maintain a good driving record suitable for company vehicle use
