Job summary

Trane Technologies in Rochester, NY seeks a Service Estimator to prepare quotes for HVAC service projects. You will work with Account Managers and building owners to deliver costed proposals, spanning materials, labor, and subcontractor services while optimizing scope and pricing.

The role requires a degree or equivalent experience in engineering/tech, HVAC knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines. Overtime/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associates degree in engineering, engineering technology or related study preferred with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience; or technical certificate with five (5) years related experience; or HVAC Technician experience with combination of education and related field experience.
• Working knowledge of construction aspects including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems preferred.
• Experience with financial and business acumen and a history of running projects on time and on budget.
• Proven experience prioritizing tasks to meet tight deadlines in a high-paced environment.
• Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime/weekends as required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Create quotes for service agreements and all quoted works in support of our Service Account Managers and Controls Service Account Managers.
• Responsible for cost estimates including materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor, and other construction-related activities to assist bidding and pricing.
• Develops detailed scope based on design-build scope.
• Creates detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exclusions, preliminary proposals, quotes, and cost breakdowns.
• Take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Identify cost saving opportunities and risk items for various projects.
• Stay current with industry standards to maintain competitive advantage.
• Develop the scope of work for sub-contractors.
• Negotiate prices with vendors/sub-contractors to optimize job costs.
• Hold pre-bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope and strategy.

Trane in Rochester/Buffalo NY is hiring for a Service Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be working with Trane Account Managers and building owners, providing estimates and quotes for HVAC service projects and agreements. What you will do:

• Create quotes for service agreements and all quoted works in support of our Service Account Managers and Controls Service Account Managers.
• Responsible for the cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities created by personnel to assist Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of project.
• Develops detailed scope based on Account Managers design-build scope.
• Creates detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, vendor/sub-contractor quotes, and points list.
• Responsible for the take‑off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
• Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects.
• Maintains competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards.
• Develops the scope of work for sub-contractors.
• Optimizes job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials and services.
• Responsible for holding job pre‑bid meeting with Account Managers to review scope, strategy, etc.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor's or Associates degree in engineering, engineering technology or related study preferred with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience; or technical certificate with five (5) years related experience; or HVAC Technician experience with combination of education and related field experience. Candidates without a 4‑year degree are encouraged to apply; we prioritize practical experience, relevant skills, and alignment with our leadership principles.
• Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, etc. preferred.
• Experience with financial and business acumen and a history of running projects on time and on budget.
• Proven experience prioritizing tasks in order to meet tight deadlines within a high‑paced environment with attention to detail.
• Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations included, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
