The Opportunity

We are working with a specialist metrology equipment manufacturer supplying advanced measurement and inspection systems into a range of high-tech industries.

Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their team. This is a highly varied role, with the opportunity to work on sophisticated electromechanical equipment across a broad customer base.

You can expect to spend the majority of your time travelling to different customer sites, troubleshooting equipment, carrying out installations and commissioning, and ensuring customers receive a high level of technical support.

The role offers significant variety — you won't be tied to one site or customer, and you'll work with different technologies, applications and engineering teams across the US.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and service advanced metrology equipment at customer sites

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical and electromechanical issues

  • Carry out preventative maintenance, repairs and equipment upgrades

  • Support customers with technical issues and provide on-site training where required

  • Work closely with internal engineering and technical teams to resolve more complex problems

  • Complete service reports and maintain accurate documentation

  • Develop strong working relationships with customers and become a trusted technical point of contact

  • Travel extensively across the US, with approximately 90% travel expected (travel schedules typically arranged 2 weeks prior).

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an engineer who is comfortable working independently in a customer-facing environment and enjoys the variety that comes with a highly mobile field service role.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience working with electromechanical equipment

  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills

  • Experience installing, commissioning, maintaining or repairing complex capital equipment

  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities

  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills

  • The ability to work independently while travelling extensively

  • A willingness to travel approximately 90% of the time

  • A valid driving licence and passport, with the ability to travel throughout the US

Territory

The position involves travel across the US, with a particularly strong customer base across the Central region, including:

There will also be flexibility required to travel to customer sites elsewhere in the US as needed.

Why Consider the Role?

  • Work with sophisticated metrology and high-tech equipment

  • Exposure to a wide variety of customer sites and industries

  • Significant variety in your day-to-day work

  • High level of autonomy and responsibility

  • Opportunity to develop your technical expertise across multiple applications

  • Customer-facing role with strong exposure to advanced manufacturing and technology environments

If you're a Field Service Engineer who enjoys working with complex electromechanical equipment and doesn't want to be tied to a single site, this could be an excellent opportunity.
