Job summary

Access Laser is seeking a Service Engineer in Everett, WA to diagnose root causes, perform repairs, and test high-performance laser products. You will fine-tune and optimize cutting-edge technologies to ensure reliability and peak performance in critical applications.

The role reports to the Service Manager and requires hands-on troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration with engineering and production teams in a clean-room, ESD environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physics or another related hard science, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years’ experience in a test or technician role in high tech manufacturing or a similar service organization.
  • Experience performing Root Cause Analysis and preparing failure analysis reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of electronics, optics, or mechanical manufacturing.
  • Hands on experience with building, troubleshooting, and repairing electromechanical systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing products and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to a high-energy and highly collaborative environment.
  • A high standard for communication and teamwork.
  • Competence in maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Test, troubleshoot, determine root cause, and repair complex electromechanical laser assemblies.
  • Provide detailed failure analyses to service manager, customers, and the manufacturing engineering team to drive product and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical team members, contributing to Design for Serviceability and Design for Quality during design reviews.
  • Document technical findings, create reports, and maintain records of work performed and problems solved.
  • Utilize measurement and test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, and network analyzers.
  • Perform quality work in a clean room and ESD environment.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all lasers meet the highest performance and quality standards.
  • Support the production team with final testing duties as workload permits.
  • Assist other departments or teams when needed, demonstrating a collaborative and team-oriented mindset to help achieve the overall success of the company.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Summary of Role:

Access Laser is seeking a Service Engineer to complement our team in diagnosing root causes, performing repairs, and testing high-performance, application-specific laser products. As a Service Engineer, you will play a key role in fine-tuning and optimizing these cutting-edge technologies to ensure reliability and performance in some of the world’s most impactful applications.

Primary Duties:
  • Test, troubleshoot, determine root cause, and repair complex electromechanical laser assemblies.

Standard Job Requirements:

Highly Desirable Additional Skills/Experience:
  • Experience building and testing laser systems.
  • Experience with Design Reviews, FMEAs, the 8D problem solving methodology, lean manufacturing and 5S concepts.
  • An understanding of, or previous experience with, RF power supplies.
  • Experience handling optics as part of an assembly process.
