Job summary

SMS InfoComm Corporation in Grapevine, TX, is seeking a Server Repair Tech responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and replacing parts on servers sent for diagnosis and repair. Primary focus on 2nd shift with duties to inspect, test, and diagnose servers and document results.

Qualifications

• Education – High school diploma or equivalent; certifications in server support are desirable.
• Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing servers; replacing parts on server hardware.
• Good written and verbal communication; document errors and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and diagnose servers
• Replace parts as needed
• Conduct and analyze server stress tests
• Document all symptoms, test results, and parts replaced in shop floor tool
• Collaborate with motherboard repair, motherboard testing, QC, whole unit repair, and inspections personnel
• Provide back up for QC, inspection, whole unit repair, and motherboard testing
• Maintain parts consumption
• Other duties as assigned by leadership
• Maintain and nurture positive work environment
• Work and collaborate with other teams such as warehouse, shipping, receiving, etc.
• Follow process for system and parts management
• Know basic server architecture
• Know how to assemble components to make server functional
• Run and understand testing diagnostics
• Understand basic networking architecture
• Understand basic error codes
• Able to trouble shoot common server errors and issues
• Motivated to solve problems
• Interested in constantly learning about servers and networking
• Increased understanding of testing and error codes
• Brings knowledge to enhance trouble shooting and diagnosis of failures
• Understands end to end flow of server repair process
• Know Linux commands and able to use terminal.
• Education – High school diploma or equivalent technical experience, certifications in Server support and architecture desired
• Experience – troubleshooting and diagnosing servers, experience with computer tools such as email, spreadsheets, and call tracking or shop repair tools
• Experience with replacing parts on servers
• Experience with server configuration
• Good written and verbal skills – needs to documents errors and repairs
• Industry/Environment: Prefer to have worked in a PC or server type of environment
• Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
