Overview
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is hiring a Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 2) / Principal Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 3) to join its team in Roy, Utah and support the Sentinel Program. The program focuses on the sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and systems for the Air Force’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Perform decomposition of Department of Defense safety manuals into requirements and allocate them to design teams for implementation.
- Provide systems engineering expertise to the design, integration, and testing of a next‑generation ICBM weapon system.
- Participate in technical planning, system integration, verification, validation, cost, risk, supportability, and analysis for mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems.
- Evaluate the physical security design based on Department of Defense Safety manuals.
- Interface directly with various compartments of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy to ensure safe design and operation of nuclear weapon systems.
- Use model‑based engineering tools on a major weapon system to pioneer a new way to evaluate and analyze modern design.
- Learn a niche discipline that spans all aspects of Nuclear Power and Munitions.
Basic Qualifications (Level 2)
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM.
- 2 years of applicable engineering experience.
- 0 years of Master’s degree education or work experience.
- 6 months of educational or work experience with DOORs, Cameo, TeamCenter, GIT, JAZZ, NX, Capitol.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret Clearance.
- Must be active and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance at start.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Basic Qualifications (Level 3)
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM.
- 5 years of related engineering experience; 3 years with a master’s degree; 1 year with a Ph.D.
- 1 year of experience with DOORs, Cameo, TeamCenter, GIT, JAZZ, NX, Capitol.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret Clearance.
- Must be active and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance at start.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, electrical, or software engineering discipline.
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
- 1 year experience with electrical or software analyses/test and verification of requirements.
- Experience working with Nuclear Surety Requirements and the Nuclear Certification process (e.g., AFI 63-125, AFMAN 91-118/91-119/31-108, DODM 5210.41, AFI 91-107).
- Experience and working knowledge of the Sentinel program.

- Standard work schedule is 9/80 (nine‑hour days Monday‑Thursday with alternate Fridays off).
Salary Range
Primary Level: $79,300.00 – $118,900.00. Secondary Level: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00. Salary may be adjusted based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentive opportunities may also apply.
