Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is hiring a Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 2) or Principal Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 3) to join its team in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel Program.

Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for ICBM Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 2+ years of engineering experience for level 2; master’s degree for level 2 possible.
• Level 3 requires 5 years related engineering experience (3 with a master’s; 1 with a PhD).
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance (Secret/Top Secret) and SAP approval.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Decompose DoD safety manuals into requirements and allocate to design teams.
• Provide systems engineering expertise for design, integration, and testing of a next-gen ICBM weapon system.
• Support system integration, verification, validation, cost, risk, and maintainability analyses.
• Evaluate safety and physical security designs based on DoD manuals.
• Interface with DoD and DOE compartments to ensure safe design and operation.
• Apply model-based engineering tools to evaluate modern designs for a major weapon system.
• Learn a discipline spanning Nuclear Power and Munitions.

Description

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is hiring a Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 2) or Principal Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 3) to join its team in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel Program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What you will get to do:

• Perform decomposition of Department of Defense safety manuals into requirements and allocating them to design teams for implementation
• Provide systems engineering expertise to the design, integration, and testing of a next generation ICBM weapon system
• Participate in technical planning, system integration, verification, validation, cost, risk, supportability, and analysis for mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems
• Evaluate the physical security design based on the Department of Defense Safety manuals
• Interface directly with various compartments of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy to ensure safe design and operation of nuclear weapon systems
• Use model-based engineering tools on a major weapon system to pioneer a new way to evaluate and analyze modern design
• Learn a niche discipline that spans all aspects of Nuclear Power and Munitions

This position may be hired at level 2 or level 3 depending upon applicant qualifications.

Basic Qualifications (Systems Engineer level 2)

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM and 2 years of applicable engineering experience. Master’s degree and 0 years.
• 6 months of educational or work experience with any of the following tools and languages: DOORs, Cameo, TeamCenter, GIT, JAZZ, NX, Capitol
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD security clearance (Secret, Top Secret; etc.)
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

Principal Systems Engineer (Level 3)

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM and 5 years of related engineering experience, 3 with a masters, 1 with a PhD
• 1 year of experience with any of the following tools and languages: DOORs, Cameo, TeamCenter, GIT, JAZZ, NX, Capitol
• Must be willing to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD security clearance (Secret, Top Secret; etc.)
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, electrical, or software engineering discipline
• Active DOD Top Secret Clearance
• 1 year of experience with electrical or software analyses/test and verification of requirements
• Experience working with Nuclear Surety Requirements and the Nuclear Certification process (e.g. AFI 63-125, AFMAN 91-118/91-119/31-108, DODM 5210.41, AFI 91-107)
• Experience and working knowledge of the Sentinel program

Position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
