Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, invites students pursuing degrees in mathematics, physics or engineering to join as interns focused on sensor processing and decision algorithms. You'll help develop algorithms and assess sensor performance for land, air, and sea-launched interceptors.

Work with a multidisciplinary team to perform trade studies, simulate signal propagation, detection and classification, and contribute to vital missile defense challenges.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in mathematics, physics, engineering or related fields.
  • Passion for sensors and signal and image processing algorithms.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, C++, or Python.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic signals, environments, sensors, signal or image processing, ML, or object tracking/classification.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Eligible to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and eventually Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trade studies and analyze performance of sophisticated sensor systems and algorithms.
  • Research concepts and develop simulations and algorithms related to signal propagation, detection, and target classification.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to solve air- and space-borne sensor challenges.
