Job summary

American University is seeking a Writer/Editor to identify, pitch, and craft engaging stories across its flagship channels. You will work with designers, videographers, and photographers to transform milestones and research into vibrant narratives for students, alumni, and more.

The ideal candidate brings 5–8 years of writing experience, strong interviewing, research, and narrative development skills, plus copyediting and proofreading strengths.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required.
• 5-8 years of relevant writing experience.
• At least five years of professional writing experience, preferably in news or higher education.

Responsibilities

• Content reporting and development for print and multimedia channels; researching and writing assignments.
• Editorial planning with editor; developing enterprise story packages and sourcing.
• Build and publish stories in the CMS; assist with digital presentation of sites.
• Support broader university communications initiatives and related editorial duties.
