Howard University is seeking an Associate Editor & Writer to research, interview, and develop engaging stories for Howard Magazine, The Dig, newsletters, annual reports, executive communications, and other print and digital platforms.

As a member of the Office of University Communications editorial team, you will identify compelling stories across the University, transforming complex information into accurate, accessible narratives, while supporting publication production, copyediting,

Qualifications

• Strong news judgment and ability to translate complex information into clear narratives.
• Attention to detail in editing, fact-checking, and production processes.
• Creativity in developing engaging stories that support editorial priorities.

Responsibilities

• Research, interview, write, and revise news stories, profiles, features for Howard Magazine, The Dig, newsletters, and other platforms.
• Produce accurate and engaging content for print, web, email, social media, and multimedia audiences.
• Serve as a lead writer on research stories, translating complex information into compelling narratives demonstrating impact and opportunity.
• Complete assignments according to editorial calendars, production schedules, and deadlines.
• Identify and pitch timely story ideas based on university priorities and audience interests.
• Translate complex academic information into clear, compelling narratives.
