Job summary

System One is seeking a Senior Windows Systems Engineer to support a federal client in Washington, DC. This hands-on role requires designing, deploying, and maintaining Windows infrastructure, and mentoring a team of administrators.

The position is a 6+ month contract with hybrid onsite/remote work; ability to obtain Public Trust clearance and contribute to security-compliant, automated solutions across Azure and on-prem environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related technical field with 8+ years of Windows admin/engineering experience.
• 6+ years in cloud operations or related field.
• 3+ years in senior/lead level with design and architecture ownership for an enterprise Windows environment.
• Familiarity with federal compliance (NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP) and CIS 4.0 controls.
• Experience designing and operating Microsoft Azure environments including Zero Trust, hybrid cloud, and cross-domain architectures.
• Experience with Azure AD / Entra ID, SSO, RBAC across Azure tenants and subscriptions.
• Automation / IaC with Ansible/Chef/Puppet; CI/CD pipelines for cloud infrastructure provisioning and deployment automation.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, PowerShell.
• Networking knowledge (DNS, VPNs, load balancers) and cloud networking.
• Active Directory Certificate Services / PKI environments.
• DoD 8570/8140 baseline certs (e.g., Security+).
• Experience with server OS installations and management including 2019/2022/2025.
• Experience with DoD and federal security hardening standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical support for the agency's Windows platform.
• Design, engineer, configure, deploy, maintain, monitor, and modernize Windows components and environment.
• Mentor administrators who operate it day to day.
• Support program operations and maintenance activities.
• Set standards and serve as an escalation point for complex issues.
• Contribute to platform design, hardening, automation, recovery, and maintenance.
