Job summary

Jackson State University is seeking a Senior Web & Application Systems Developer to lead web and application development projects, set standards, and guide architectural direction. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in web or application development or systems integration.
• Significant experience with Ellucian Banner, including API development, Oracle-based data structures, and integration frameworks.
• Proficiency in backend development languages (PHP, Python, Java, JavaScript/Node.js).
• Strong SQL skills; Oracle experience highly preferred.
• Experience with API frameworks, ETL processes, REST/SOAP, and system integration technologies.
• Experience with web server management, DevOps practices, version control (Git), and automated deployment tools.
• Strong knowledge of security standards, identity management (SSO, SAML, OAuth), and data governance.
• Demonstrated leadership in technical project management and system architecture.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for web and application development projects, setting standards and development methodologies.
• Provide architectural direction for web systems, APIs, integrations, and application environments.
• Collaborate with IT leadership and campus stakeholders to plan system improvements and long-term strategies.
• Mentor junior developers, web staff, and student workers; provide technical oversight and code review.
• Oversee backend operations of the university website and platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
• Design and implement enhancements to web infrastructure, including server configurations and security policies.
• Resolve complex technical issues and lead response efforts for high-impact web incidents or outages.
• Ensure compliance with WCAG accessibility standards, security requirements, and institutional policies.
• Provide high-level technical support and consultation to faculty, staff, and departments regarding web apps and data integrations.
