Job summary

ERG in the United States is seeking a Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer to join the Water and Wastewater Engineering team. You will collaborate with the EPA, state agencies, utilities, and other organizations to address water quality and infrastructure challenges.

The role involves supervising staff, leading project design and funding efforts, evaluating technologies, preparing engineering reports, and driving business development while delivering high-quality, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical, environmental, civil, or a related engineering discipline.
• 20–25 years of progressively responsible experience in water resources management, wastewater treatment, and the design of municipal water and wastewater systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing comprehensive engineering reports, from preliminary assessments through final design.
• Strong understanding of applicable environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and compliance standards.
• Knowledge of federal water and wastewater funding programs, financing mechanisms, and eligibility requirements.
• Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage technical staff while delivering high-quality work, exceeding client expectations, and achieving financial and project objectives.
• Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to motivate teams, foster cooperation, and build productive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Experience working in an engineering consulting environment, including project management, client development, proposal preparation, and contract delivery.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage staff providing technical assistance to small, underserved water and wastewater utilities nationwide.
• Support these utilities in securing funding and in designing, constructing, and maintaining sustainable, resilient water infrastructure that delivers safe, reliable water to their communities.
• Assess and promote innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies, and develop practical resources to reduce barriers to their adoption.
• Evaluate the design, costs, feasibility, and environmental impacts of proposed water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Guide the preparation, review, and delivery of preliminary engineering reports.
• Manage environmental sampling and field survey programs; perform advanced analyses of sampling results; and prepare clear, concise technical reports.
• Provide internal and external guidance on eligibility, access, and technical requirements associated with federal water and wastewater funding programs, including the State Revolving Fund programs.
• Lead business development activities, including identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, and supporting proposals and other capture efforts.
