ERG is seeking a Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our Water and Wastewater Engineering team in Arlington, VA. You will collaborate with EPA, state agencies, utilities, and other organizations to address water quality and infrastructure challenges, applying your technical expertise to protect public health and the environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical, environmental, civil, or related engineering.
• 20–25 years of progressively responsible experience in water resources management and wastewater systems.
• Proven ability to develop comprehensive engineering reports from start to finish.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance.
• Experience with federal water/wastewater funding programs and financing.
• Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and mentor staff while delivering high-quality work and managing projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage staff providing technical assistance to small, underserved water and wastewater utilities nationwide.
• Assess and promote innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies and develop practical resources to reduce adoption barriers.
• Evaluate design, costs, feasibility, and environmental impacts of proposed water and wastewater projects.
• Guide preparation, review, and delivery of preliminary engineering reports.
• Manage environmental sampling and field surveys; perform analyses and prepare concise technical reports.
• Provide guidance on eligibility and requirements for federal water/wastewater funding programs, including SRF.
• Lead business development: identify opportunities, build client relationships, and support proposals.
