Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a mid‑level engineer to support water and wastewater projects on the West Coast. You will work with a diverse team, lead tasks, and grow through our Leadership Academy and training programs. The role emphasizes independent work, collaboration, and client interaction.

You’ll gain experience across design scopes, mentoring, and professional development while delivering compliant, high‑quality solutions for drinking water and wastewater systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• EIT or FE exam within 18 months of hire or transfer.
• 5 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review and approve basic to moderately complex water/wastewater designs (facilities, pipelines, pump stations).
• Ensure designs comply with state and local regulations.
• Apply firm policies, procedures and best practices to all deliverables.
• Conduct site visits and technical studies to verify design requirements.
• Update design criteria as needed during project development.
• Contribute to technical leadership through papers and conference presentations.
• Collaborate with sales to prepare proposals in response to RFPs.
• Meet with clients to understand evolving design needs.
• Represent CDM Smith at conferences and build client relationships.
