Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Design Engineer in Randburg, Gauteng, ZA, to design and develop water and wastewater treatment processes for municipal and industrial clients. You will perform mass/energy balances, select treatment technologies, and support pilot tests from concept to commissioning.

The role requires a chemical or environmental engineering degree and 5+ years of experience, with strong technical writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process design for water and wastewater treatment.
• Experience with process simulation software (BioWin, AqWise, or similar).
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., SANS).
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must be a team player with good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop PFDs and P&IDs for water treatment plants.
• Perform mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and process calculations.
• Select appropriate treatment technologies and equipment (filtration, membranes, chemical dosing, biological treatment).
• Conduct treatability studies and pilot plant trials to validate designs.
• Prepare process design packages, including reports, specifications, and operating manuals.
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams for integrated designs.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Ensure designs comply with environmental regulations and client requirements.
• Conduct site visits for data collection and project execution.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing.
