Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Process Design Chemical Engineer for their Randburg, Gauteng office. You will design chemical plants, develop PFDs and P&IDs, perform mass and energy balances, and select equipment, working closely with multi-disciplinary teams on-site.

You should have a chemical engineering degree, 5+ years in process design, and proficiency with Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and PRO/II, plus knowledge of PSM and HAZOP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of process design engineering experience in chemical/petrochemical industries.
• Proficiency with Aspen Plus, HYSYS, PRO/II.
• Strong knowledge of unit operations, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
• Experience in developing PFDs and P&IDs.
• Familiarity with PSM principles and HAZOP studies.
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Randburg, Gauteng.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and design skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Knowledge of ASME, API codes.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual and detailed process designs for chemical plants and modifications.
• Create PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specs, and control philosophies.
• Perform and verify mass and energy balance calculations.
• Select and size key process equipment (reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, separators).
• Use process simulation software for design and analysis.
• Conduct PHAs and incorporate safety into designs.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and civil teams.
• Prepare technical reports, design summaries, and cost estimates.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, codes, and client specifications.
• Provide technical support during project execution and construction.
