Job description

Responsible for loading and unloading freight accurately, inventory control, rotation, inspection, and other warehouse duties to ensure timely and accurate delivery of freight to customers. May assist with directing warehouse employees while performing individual responsibilities in a specific functional area.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

1. Load inbound and outbound freight to and from vehicles and containers.
2. Unload inbound and outbound containers and sort according to size and destination.
3. Read, decode, and decipher freight coding to expedite freight movement and tracing.
4. Reconcile driver pickup and delivery manifests.
5. Label, weigh, and dimensionalize freight.
6. Perform cleanup activities in the work area to ensure safety and cleanliness of the dock.
7. Record damaged shipments and misrouted freight on applicable reports.
8. Communicate work area needs to the Warehouse Supervisor.
9. Determine daily tasks and workloads; coordinate staffing accordingly with the Warehouse Supervisor.
10. Delegate warehouse tasks in assigned areas in conjunction with the Warehouse Supervisor.
11. Identify system or process issues and communicate those to the Warehouse Supervisor.
12. Coordinate trucking transportation in and out of the warehouse.
13. Maintain quality standards for warehouse storage and service, including communication with internal and external customers.
14. Maintain and ensure a safe working environment.
15. Complete other duties or tasks as assigned.
16. Assist in training other warehouse personnel as needed.

Role-specific Skills:

This is a senior-level position. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with generally 3-5 years of experience preferred. Familiarity with OSHA regulations, operation of equipment such as forklifts and computers, and strong organizational, inventory, and accounting skills are necessary. Good interpersonal skills are required. Ability to read, decode, and decipher freight coding; operate hand trucks and forklifts; and perform tasks in inclement weather conditions is essential. Physical requirements include pushing, pulling, and lifting weights up to 50+ lbs.
