Job summary

Philo is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for Video Engineering to design, build, and optimize the video ingest, transcode, and delivery pipeline that powers our streaming platform.

You will work across cloud-native services, drive performance improvements, and collaborate with Ads, Client, and Data teams to ensure scalable, high-quality video experiences for millions of users.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Proven track record building efficient and available software in Golang, Java, C++ or similar.
• Deep experience with concurrent programming and high-throughput RESTful services.
• Experience operating in cloud environments using Docker, Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated ability to own and drive complex tasks with Scrum/Agile methodologies.
• Experience with large data volumes and both relational and non-relational databases.
• Familiarity with cloud video transcoding services (AWS Elemental, Azure Media Services) and FFmpeg is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, deploy and monitor Philo's video streaming pipeline using in-house tech and open source software.
• Collaborate with content partners to deliver optimal TV watching experience for users.
• Build scalable data pipelines for ingesting video and analytics events with distributed computing.
• Collaborate with video delivery, ad operations, and data science teams to measure and optimize delivery and viewing experience.
• Drive improvements to reliability, performance, latency, and security of the video platform.
• Evaluate, select and develop video encoding tech to optimize quality and reduce CDN costs.
• Assist client engineering teams in testing and improving video QoE across new Philo apps.
