Job summary

Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Fairhaven, MA seeks a Maintenance Department Supervisor to oversee vessel maintenance across SSA locations, directing trades personnel and vessel crews assigned to the Fairhaven Facility and related shops.

You will plan manpower, schedule work, ensure safety, manage licensing and training, supervise payroll records and stockroom activities, and coordinate with engineers and management. Weekend availability and emergency response duties may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or equivalent marine experience; USCG license preferred.
  • Experience supervising various trades personnel in repair and maintenance of ships.
  • Knowledge of United States Coast Guard regulations for repair and construction of commercial vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of Maintenance Department trades personnel and Vessel personnel at the Fairhaven Facility and other SSA locations.
  • Direct all Maintenance Department and Vessel personnel at the Fairhaven Facility and multiple shops; ensure work is safe, efficient, and timely per bargaining agreements.
  • Assess manpower requirements; plan, schedule, and prioritize work to maintain vessels, terminals, and facilities cost-effectively.
  • Ensure maintenance staff hold required licenses, certifications, and training; track renewals and coordinate continuing education.
  • Oversee payroll records and documentation for Maintenance personnel, including daily work reports and leave tracking.
  • Oversee maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment operated by shop personnel; supervise stockroom and warehouse activities at Falmouth and Fairhaven facilities.
  • Act as onsite Safety Compliance Manager, managing PPE, JHA, and training programs for Fairhaven staff and other SSA locations; ensure environmental compliance.
  • Investigate work-related injuries and prepare related reports; coordinate procurement of materials and equipment before annual overhaul periods.
  • Coordinate with Port Engineer, Facilities Engineer, and management to plan and procure necessary materials.
  • Meet weekly with senior management to review overhaul progress; collaborate with engineers and management for continuous improvement.
  • Available to manage the Fairhaven Facility on weekends and respond to emergencies as required.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
