Job summary

Leidos seeks an Autonomous Simulation Software Engineer to develop the software and simulation infrastructure for next-gen uncrewed underwater vehicles and maritime autonomous systems. You will build models of vehicles, sensors, environments, and mission behaviors in a high‑fidelity MAGMA-based framework, enabling repeated testing before water trials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8–12 years of experience or Master’s with 6–10 years of experience.
• Experience developing modern C++ software on Linux with strong fundamentals.
• Experience developing software to simulate, model, emulation, or test complex physical or cyber-physical systems.
• Ability to understand how software components interact with sensors, hardware, networks, physical systems, and environments.

Responsibilities

• Build high‑fidelity simulation software using C++, Java, and Python on Linux-based systems to model vehicles, sensors, environments, interfaces, and mission behavior.
• Expand and evolve the MAGMA-based Simulation Framework with reusable components and patterns.
• Increase simulation fidelity by identifying critical behaviors and representing them in software.
• Model complex systems and behaviors translating vehicle characteristics, sensor behavior, and environmental effects into models.
• Enable autonomy development and test by creating simulation environments for repeated exercises before hardware deployment.
• Architect scalable simulation infrastructure with modularity, extensibility, and deterministic behavior where appropriate.
• Connect simulation to production software by integrating simulated components with real autonomy and mission software.
• Build tools to accelerate engineering including scenario generation, data collection, playback, debugging, and automated execution.
• Validate simulation against reality using data, system behavior, and analysis to understand model fidelity.
• Ship production‑quality simulation software with ownership from architecture to use.
• Collaborate across disciplines in design reviews and trade studies.
