Job summary

Collier County Public Utilities seeks a professional engineer to design, review, and oversee construction and development projects within the Engineering and Project Management Division, ensuring compliance with all laws and standards.

The role provides technical guidance to contractors, reviews plans and permits, prepares design documents, and supports project management activities, including schedules and budgets, for county infrastructure initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Related fields may be accepted in non-engineering areas of concentration.
• Five (5) years of related experience.
• Fingerprinting required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direction, guidance and assistance to contractors and work crews; coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with contractors and work crews, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
• Interprets, explains, and ensures engineering compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, resolutions, regulations, standards, specifications, policies and procedures, as well as approved construction plans; researches codes, engineering standards, manuals, or resources as needed; initiates actions to correct deviations or violations.
• Consults with Division management to review status of Division projects, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations.
• Prepares design and construction documents pertaining to division projects; prepares plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Reviews site development plans, construction/engineering plans, permit applications, and specifications to ensure compliance with codes and standards; reviews studies, reports, and cost estimates; reviews changes to construction plans; provides recommendations and comments.
• Designs/develops architectural drawings, engineering plans, and specifications; defines design needs; determines design solutions; produces designs using CAD; reviews design for compliance with laws, codes, and standards.
• Coordinates or performs project management; prepares, reviews, and monitors project schedules and budgets; monitors contracts/agreements.
• Performs site visits, inspections, surveys; resolves problems at site; collects data and photographs; evaluates field conditions.
• Performs engineering analysis and prepares reports; evaluates problems and recommends solutions.
• Reviews and amends codes/ordinances; prepares technical reports and bid specs; provides data to management or consultants.
• Coordinates work activities with divisions/departments, contractors and outside agencies; responds to questions and complaints; provides information and assistance.
